Week Six (September 27-Oct 1)
On Monday, I worked the Nursing Simulation Event. From 8:30-9:00 am, I met with the professor and went over expectations. At 9am, the students started coming in. I had to pretend that I was a patient going through alcohol withdraws. The professor put me in a hospital gown, taped fake IVs to my hands and had me sit in the hospital bed. The students had to act as if I was their patient, they even used the IVs, but obviously it did not go into my body since it was taped to the top of my skin, so it all just poured out and got on the bed! Depending on how fast they pushed the IV meds, the professor would signal for me to pass out and mumble (if they pushed it too fast) or to just calm down (if they did it right). After each group, I got to tell them how it felt being their patient, and I got to hear the professor feedback for the students. The professors said that my acting was the best they've ever had and that I reminded them of real patients they have had before! This was a super fun experience and I would love to do it again! The professor said she'd be reaching back out to me to enlist me for future events, which made me feel so good!
On Tuesday I worked Student Life front desk from 8-9 am, then I had class from 9:30 - 10:50 am. After that, I found a quiet space next to the faculty offices on Muntz second floor. Then, I worked the Welcome Desk from 12:00pm until 2pm. Once I wrapped up there, I went back and worked the Student Life desk again until 4pm. I wrapped up my day with my MDL Lecture from 5:00-5:50pm and then I tutored virtually from 7:30-8:30pm.
On Wednesday I attended my student teaching from 6:30 am until 2:00pm. Then, I worked at the Dry Cleaners from 3-7pm.
On Thursday, I worked Student Life from 11-3pm and then had my honors lecture from 3:30-4:35pm.
On Friday, I attended my student teaching! We had a potluck lunch in the teacher's lounge! It was fiesta themed, so I brought a Tres Leches cake, that I made from scratch!
On Saturday, I worked the Open House from 11am-4pm! This was a super fun and busy event! For me, the best parts were talking with the Dean and seeing my mom and sister! My sister is a senior and high school and applied yesterday for the Dental Hygiene program here at UCBA!
